Evening Open Overview

  • Last Updated Thursday, 03 November 2011 21:43

The Basic Rules:

1. Teams must have a minimum of three players to play an official game.  If you are curling with 3 players, only one of the players can be a spare.  If you are curling with three players, the first two curlers will throw three rocks each, and the skip will throw the final two rocks.

2. In order for a game to be official, a minimum of 2 players must be regular team members.   A regular team member is a player who has paid the Evening Open fee and is registered with the league as being a member of your team.

3. All games are to be a maximum of 8 ends long.  There are no extra ends played in case of a tie.

4. A coin-flip before the start of the game will decide who gets the hammer.  The team that wins the coin-flip gets to decide which team takes the hammer to start the game.  The team without the hammer gets to choose which colour rocks their team will play with.

5. For the 7pm draw, a bell or alarm will sound at 8:55pm.  This is a signal that you are playing your final end.

6. For the 9:15pm draw, a bell or alarm will sound at 11:10pm.  This is a signal that you are playing your final end.

7. For points 5 and 6, an end is deemed to be over when the final rock has left the hand of the player who is delivering it.
League Overview
1. Each night’s teams will be divided between an A division and a B division.

2. At the end of each round, the two B division teams who accumulated the most points during that round will move up to the A division.  The two A division teams who accumulated the fewest points during that round will move down to the B division.

3.  If more than 2 teams are tied in points at the end of a round, the tie-breaking formula is as follows:
* Head to head record in that round
* Fewest losses during the round
* Number of points coming into the round
* Coin toss

4. The season will end after 3 full draws have been played.  Playoffs will take place the week following the end of the season.  The top two teams on each night will be invited to compete in the Club Championship playoffs.  All other teams will be invited to play in the Evening Open playoffs.

5. If two or more teams are tied for the top two positions at the end of the season, the tie-breaking formula will be as follows:
* Head to head results over the entire season
* Fewest losses during the season
* Number of points coming into the final round
* Coin toss

Scoring:
Points are awarded as follows:
10 pts for a win against an A division opponent
5 pts for a tie against an A division opponent
8 pts for a win against a B division opponent
4 points for a tie against a B division opponent

After each game, the WINNING TEAM should immediately record the final score of the game on the provided score sheet (if the game is tied, both teams should record their own scores.)
Sparing and Defaults

PLEASE do your best to find spares if you are not going to make it.  There is a spares list on our club’s website (http://cityviewcurling.ca).

Full *curling* members of the club are allowed to spare.  Players who will to spare but are not a member of a CVCC league may do so by registering (and paying the applicable fees) as a spare using the membership form found on the CVCC website.   Teams that bring in non-members to spare will forfeit any points obtained on the night that the non-member played on the team.

If you cannot find enough spares to play, then PLEASE contact your opponent ASAP.
Defaults are recorded as an 8-0 loss for the defaulting team.

Spares must throw lead or second rocks.  Spares cannot throw third or skip’s rocks.  A spare can act as skip and call the game, but the spare must throw lead or second rocks.

Fundraising

We will be selling 50/50 tickets after each draw.  At least once per draw, a team will be responsible for selling 50/50 tickets to the other teams who curled during their timeslot.

The 50/50 box (containing the 50/50 tickets) is kept on a shelf in the bar area.  Please ask the bartender to get it for you.  The cost per ticket is 1 dollar for 1 ticket, or 2 dollars for 3 tickets.  Once you have finished selling tickets, place the box back behind the bar.

The winning ticket will be drawn on either Friday or Saturday night.  The winner’s name and amount won will be written on the chalkboard beside the bar.  Please contact one of the Evening Open Reps listed at the bottom of this document to claim your prize.

The money raised in the 50/50 draws will go towards prizes and to the year-end banquet.  Any remaining money is turned back to the Club, as required by the Club constitution.
