Memories of City View
by Heather (Wright) Mitchell
(ed note: This is one of a series of historical reflections writen by past and present members for our 50th anniversary season)
I think that it is the first place outside of the hospital that I was brought to as a child. Some of my earliest memories are of the club. My parents were original 1957 members - Norman "Darkie"Wright, and Barbara Wright. The thing I remember most is the scent of the club - straw brooms, cigarette smoke (yeah there were lots) perfume, beer!
It all mingled into a very potent brew that was not unpleasant, and there is still a hint when I go back to visit - although it might be my
imagination.
Dad was the president in 1969-70 and he was very nervous about taking on the responsibility however I'm so glad he did as it is such a thrill walking up those stairs and seeing his picture. We lost him in December of 1999. It's because of my parents that I started curling and continue to do so. There were no "little rocks" so I had to wait till I was 11 or so, but I remember the thrill of getting that first rock over the hog line – and some days it's still a challenge! I wish I could take part in the "junior" spiel however I'm in
Stretch before the game - you'll thank me later,,,,,,
I met so many great people at CV, the Shermans, the Dohertys, the Watsons, the Parks, the Ballards, the Brights, the Halls, the Shinns, the Dotys, the Lourdens, the list goes on and on. I know I have missed tons of names however I look forward to seeing them all at the banquet! And Kristi, you better be there!! I'm sure we haven't changed at bit!!!
